Influencers Prioritized Over Journalists at DNC — Good Choice!
Let me start this by saying: “whoever is running the Kamala Harris campaign, I bow to you!” The Kamala Harris campaign we see right now for her to be elected President is an example of how things should be done. Everything is literally perfect and the Republican counterparts have been completely destroyed because of their lack of understanding of one vital thing: we are in the year 2024!
So, journalists complain about lack of space and long lines (among others) at the DNC. Long story short, there were fewer places available for print and traditional media journalists as a whole than in the previous years. And the whole stage was built in a way that it favored the creation of social media content. Also, costs were much higher for print journalists wanting to participate, like $600 more than with the RNC.
As a response to the whining of the traditional media, a DNC spokesperson, Emily Soong, declared:
“Democrats value a free press, and our convention is a reflection of that. We’ve prioritized making sure members of the media have the resources they need to bring the story of our convention out to their communities from both inside and outside of the conventional hall…”
Now…there are many different reasons that can be pointed out as to why there were fewer places available, ranging from actual space available to the priority of the campaign being created. But, the truth is that the Kamala Harris campaign is different.
For those who enjoy marketing and actually have an eye for this, the campaign we see is a true masterpiece. It is a huge reason why Kamala Harris is climbing in polls while Donald Trump is losing voters.
Why?
- Donald Trump’s campaign has no structure, Kamala Harris’ has a clear structure.
- Donald Trump’s campaign does not understand social media, Kamala Harris’ fully understands social media users.
- Donald Trump’s campaign focuses on hate, Kamala Harris’ focuses on the opposite.
To put things as simple as possible, Donald Trump won his last Presidential Race with social media. The second race he lost to Biden was quite close but he actually lost in numbers, with more voters voting for Biden. This should have been a wake-up call that there is a shift and the same strategy would not work in the future. Donald Trump’s campaign failed to understand this.
Traditional media hates influencers. They hate influencers because “they take away clicks” and “do not do work”. The truth is that traditional journalists are actually not doing their work anymore. The term journalist used to mean something. The most important thing was integrity. We have seen journalists gradually lose this over the past 20 years.
Some right wing people noticed the shift. This is why Elon Musk bought Twitter. He understood that Twitter is a great medium to use to influence people. Well…he might have understood this but he did not understand that access to social media also means people get more and more educated as time passes. And promoting something only using hate does not work anymore. People are no longer afraid since now they have access to information.
Elon Musk bought Twitter and turned it into a right wing propaganda machine. The world responded. Twitter is losing money no matter what Musk is telling you. There is a reason why there are no financial records provided. We see an example of one man single-handedly destroying something that should be very beneficial for humanity.
What does this have to do with the election process?
Social media networks like Twitter helped Trump a lot in the past. But people changed. They now see what happened and started using social media to get informed. As a result, Trump and Musk telling lies on the internet is no longer something that works.
Kamala Harris’ campaign focuses just on facts and undeniable truths. For instance, Donald Trump was convicted of 34 felony counts. This is undeniable. Donald says he is not a convicted felon. But he is. Kamala Harris’s campaign only says he is convicted. The undecided voter sees Trump say a lie (very easy to see that he is actually convicted) and Harris say the truth. The undecided voter sees Trump not answering any question. The undecided voter sees Kamala Harris only provide facts. So, a shift is happening.
The campaign run by the Kamala Harris team is something that should be studied by every single person interested in digital marketing. It is a clear example of how you can promote something in a very fun way while taking advantage of all the hate and mistakes made by the opposition. All that Kamala needs to do is post a clip of Donald Trump rambling nonsense and fact check him. And it shows.
